Be Rural for me
Be Rural is indeed a way of being and living. It is to live plunged into the rural world – agricultural, farming setting – in Southeastern Sicily, amongst locals and sceneries, working the land and its produce.
According to me, Be Rural means to get back to the roots. To an authentic dimension, where body and soul are in peace, in harmony. Just like the nice fragrance of clean from my grandma doing laundry, such memory giving me a shiver and making me feel well.
Be Rural for you
There are physical places and paces for your soul, these levels overlapping at times. It happens to me, as I feel at home in this uncontaminated, intimate region of Hyblaean Hills. Many areas but condensed in the same, tiny corner of Southeastern Sicily. There are many emotions I feel when I work here or I visit, even just with memories. Many facets of the natural, human and architectural beauty they feature.
Such beauty has endured through time (my guests say that time stops while they admire the alleyways in Modica, Scicli, Ragusa Ibla, or the country paths across olive groves in Frigintini, Chiaramonte, Giarratana, Monterosso Almo), and I feel I have to preserve and promote it. A challenging beauty.
This is the proposal by Be Rural for you: to get you involved in the experience, to savour my land’s wonder. Experience means to learn (with hand, skin, eyes, smell and heart), and remember.

This is the proposal by Be Rural for you: to get you involved in the experience, to savour my land’s wonder. Experience means to learn (with hand, skin, eyes, smell and heart), and remember.
Be Rural means to wander, with a rucksack on your back, in fascinating and intimate landscapes, surrounded by olive trees, vines, citrus trees, across hills enriched by dry stone walls gently placed down to the shore. It means to savour the wisdom from elderly farmers and the courage of their grandchildren that are coming back to take care of this ancient land. It means to try the ”country’s healthy fatigue”, by doing seasonal work, through harvest rituals and cheese-making art. It also means to visit wineries, vine, to relish the history of local wine, as well as exploring caves, water mills and farms, ad hiking across nature paths. It means to taste authentic specialties, such as honey and cheese, fares to be prepared along with people who have always done it as a tradition.
Be Rural is to watch the start from a hill on the shore. It is to bring the sheep herd to graze, together with local farmers, it is to learn the benefits of local wild herbs (foraging), to smell the aromatic plants, to learn the direction of the winds. It is to learn from hands that are marked by time, faces burnt by the sun, sincere smiles.

Be Rural it is not a travel website, but a journey across the Hyblean sites.
Be Rural offers emotional experience and itineraries, for a few hours, a day, a weekend, or more days, to be added on your holiday in Sicily, in order to involve your soul and body into the thrill of getting close to the rural essence of this region.
It is a set of proposals of experiences for rural lovers who have already booked and arranged their journey and want to spend one or more days of their trip in a plunge into the rural and cultural heritage of this baroque land.
A great opportunity to be aware and show interest for the agricultural world in this corner of Sicily, a way to challenge yourself across the main farming activities, step by step, away from watches and smartphones, by following the rhythm of the seasons. But also pleasant visits to appreciate art, architecture and local handicraft traditions, as well as nature walks through canyons, hills and beaches in this baroque land, a few steps from their Unesco world heritage centres.
I repeat it here: Be Rural does not organise tours, but it help you to re-discover the root of your well-being with a journey, thanks to a different concept of vacation, focused on the authentic experience and emotion. Those feelings (shivers from revelations, surprise from just-pressed olive oil, delight of recognising the bouquet of flavours in a wine), which are natural to me, just like the wild herbs, which are too powerful to keep just for me.
The identity of Be Rural is in fact based on my wish to tell about the Hyblaean Hills. It’s local fauna, art, agriculture, food; its historic importance; its cultural fusion; its rural tradition; its Mediterranean roots find space in the project Rural Identity, my blog.
